Tips for Using Piksters: Master Your Routine and Extend Brush Life
Piksters use plastic coated twisted wire as the backbone for the brush. Breakage of the wire can occur if the wire is bent back and forth several times. Piksters pass the ISO test for bending endurance, but occasionally the wire may break. To minimise the risk of this occurring we suggest the following: 1. Choose a size that inserts without force. The correct size will fit snugly. You should feel a slight scrubbing action. 2. The front teeth do not require the brush head to be bent. Insert the brush head in line with the handle. 3. For fine sizes 000, 00, 0, insert the brush SLOWLY with a gentle twisting action where possible • this will ease the brush into the space so that the wire does not buckle. If the wire buckles, discard the brush. Once bent, it cannot be straightened properly. 4. When using the brush between the BACK teeth, access may be easier if the brush head is bent over. Try to minimise the bend angle. Sometimes you can use the brush without bending. If you need to bend, use one finger to push the TIP of the brush head over (not the base). Pushing the tip will avoid a sharp bend where the wire meets the handle, and reduce stress and potential breakage in the metal. 5. Do not re-cap a bent brush more than approx 4-8 times depending on the severity of the bend, as this will rebend the wire & increase the chance of breakage. 6. Do not bend the handle back and forth against the brush head when the brush is inserted between the teeth. 7. Using the optional 'Power Piksters' vibrating handle reduces the pressure needed to insert the brush and the bending forces on the wire and may extend the brush life. 8. Piksters are reusable and can last several days if they are not bent excessively. Simply rinse out under water like a normal toothbrush.
Tips for Using Piksters: What to do if a brush head should break
If the brush head breaks and is lodged between your teeth, use one of the following methods to get it out. Firstly, ensure you tilt your head forward so that once the piece becomes loose it falls forward out of your mouth. Do not look upward into a mirror, breathe in, or aspirate the broken piece. A. Use a pair of tweezers to pull the broken piece out. B. Use another brush to push out the broken piece. You can insert it from the opposite direction to push it back towards the cheek, or if this fails, try pushing it all the way through if there is no blockage in front of it.. There are 12 sizes of Piksters. You may find a bigger size helps push out any broken head. C. Use a flexible toothpick to push out the broken piece. D. Use a piece of floss with 2 or 3 knots tied on top of each other to floss out the broken piece. The knot forms a lump that pushes out the obstacle. Try flossing such that the head comes out the way it went in. If you cannot remove the piece, contact your dentist or hygienist. In the unlikely event that you swallow a brush head, do not be concerned as it will almost certainly pass straight through you without any issues. However, if you have any symptoms or concerns contact your doctor. Please note: All interdental brushes, toothpicks and sticks can put pressure on the tip of the gum, especially if you apply too much force or use a brush that is too big for the space. This can cause a slight re-shaping/ bluntening of the gum over time. This is not a health or functional issue, but to minimize this, use small Piksters brush sizes (with a gentle action) for cosmetic areas such as the front teeth, and larger sizes for the back teeth. Alternatively, use floss or SupaGRIP floss picks for cosmetically sensitive areas.
